The Phi Delts at MO Alpha Welcome Alumni for Homecoming Weekend

The MO Alpha chapter of Phi Delta Theta would like to welcome all of its alumni to attend the Alumni tailgate before the Texas Tech game on October 20th.  This is Mizzou's Homecoming weekend so we wanted to give all of our alumns ample time to make arrangements to come down to Columbia. 

As for the Alumni tailgate on the 20th, it will be held in Parking Lot G behind the Stadium.  So tell all of your fellow Phis to attend this event and come celebrate Homecoming weekend the right way.  This tailgate will also support Dad's weekend, so this will be a great location to hang out before the game.  We hope to see all of you at this event, and especially the champions of the 1st annual Alumni Invitational Golf Tournament so they can claim their prize.

Our beloved Tigers are currently 4-0 and are about to engage in a Big 12 battle tomorrow evening at 8:15 against the Cornhuskers of Nebraska.  The game will be televised nationally on ESPN, so hopefully our Tigers will perform for the nation to see.

Province President to Attend Chapter on Monday

Brothers,

Our Province President, Jeff Davis, will be attending Chapter this coming Monday, February 5th, 2007.  All active members are required to attend, and be in the Chapter Room no later than 5:30 PM.  If you can't attend, please let Mike or Tony know (with valid excuse in hand).  This will be the first chapter for all of our new initiates, so expect it to go a little long.

All Alumni are welcome to attend as well.  Jeff recited "The Bond" from memory last year at National Convention, and said he would do the same for us on Monday.  According to those who attended last year's Convention, the performance was inspiring, and received a lengthy standing ovation.  What a way for the new initiates to experience their first chapter.

Brotherhood Bowling

Our annual Brotherhood Bowling event will be held next Wednesday, January 31st.  The event will be held at the AMF bowling alley here in Columbia.  We will have the lanes starting at 9:00 pm and should last between 10:00 and 10:30.  We invite all local alumni to come out and attend the event with the current brothers of the MO Alpha chapter of Phi Delta Theta.

Remember Brothers, we have initiation before this event, so be at the house in time.  At the conclusion of initiation, we will have shuttles running to the bowling alley.  I hope to see you all there.

Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha returns to help out "Meals on Wheels"

After a ten year hiatus, Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha is helping out at Meals on Wheels of Columbia once again.  Today, the first group of Phi Delts helped run food for the organization . . . but it will definitely not be the last.  The Fraternity is committed to lending a hand the rest of the semester, by sending 2 to 3 cars or (4 to 6 helpers) every Friday morning before lunch.

Active Brian Burns who's heading up the cause, lead the group today (which included Nicholas Goodwin, Mike Thurman and Ben Hallum).  They were the first group from Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha, to make a food run to the elderly since 1996.

Burns who helped come up with the idea has offered to lead the group every Friday throughout the semester. "I think as whole, the house is just trying to become more actively involved in the community this year."  Said Burns of the endevor.  "I figured it was the least we could do, to give back to Columbia.  It's only an hour a week, and we knew they needed the help.  That's pretty much the extent of it."

Meals on Wheels Executive Director Marcia Walker is glad to see the relationship return.  She briefly commented on the history of the two organizations,  "The Phi Delta Theta house was always consistently helping in the early 90's . . . but for some reason they stopped coming around 1996.  I am more than happy to have them back, we can always you the extra help."

Burns will remain the only constant the rest of the semester, but will be joined weekly by a different set of Actives and Phikeias.  Look for pictures to follow.

Hazing Prevention Week

It is Hazing Prevention Week and Nationals has provided some terrific resources on the matter for our viewing. 

A good PDF to start with is "Don't Tarnish the Badge - Keep Hazing Out of Phi Delta Theta."

Also a reminder for tonight . . . everyone is required to attend the Hazing Prevention seminar at Jesse Hall.  It starts at 8 PM on the dot.  So everybody be there and be on time.  The event will consists of several speakers highlighting the importance of Hazing Prevention, and why it is necessary in today's Greek Societies.
