We got a new volleyball net at the house for our annual philanthropy, Phi Slamma Jamma, unfortunately we were unable to use it due to the weather.  We had to hold this event at the Mizzou Rec Center instead.  Our Greek Week partners, the women of Delta Delta Delta, won the event defeating other sororitites such as; Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi who came in second place.  The proceeds go to the ALS Association of St. Louis to help treat Lou Gehrig's Disease, to honor one of our most famous Phi's.  We hope to hold this event in the Fall of next year, as originally scheduled this year, so hopefully next year we can hold anoher successful week of events to help a great cause.

Everyone in the chapter is gearing up for our first annual Alumni Invitational Golf Tournament this Saturday at A.L. Gustin Golf Club.  Everyone who is planning to attend needs to arrive at the course by 10AM so we can get the tournament underway.  Each group competing will have an assigned tee time, but there will be a gathering area by the putting green to socialize before you have to tee off.  Remember, food and beverages will be provided.  The Alumni Relations Committee will work hard this week to make sure everything is ready for Saturday and the tournament is a great success.  It is also a great way for the actives to relax and unwind for an afternoon since the following week is the dreaded finals week.  Again, we thank you for your support and we hope to see you there.

This Week in Phi Delta Theta - MO Alpha

We have a ton of activities going on around the Phi Delt House this week.

The Alumni Relations Committe has been busy finalizing the plans for the First Annual Alumni Invitational Golf Tournment, which is scheduled for May 5th at 1:30 PM at A. L. Gustin.   We appreciate the support of all the Alumni, who have either signed up to play, or sent in donations on behalf of the Sword and Shield Scholorship Fund.  It's not to late to sign up for the tourney, and or send in a donation.  Go to www.mizzouphideltsalumni.com to learn more.

Also this week . . . we have come down to the wire in Greek Week and our pairing will show off their skit and dance tomorrow night at 6:30 PM in Jesse Hall Auditorium.  All members are required to attend.  In Greek Week sports, we made it to the second round in both kickball and basketball before suffering nailbiting defeats.  We hope our luck will change as we challenge the opponents in both soccer and flag football.

Remember, Mom's Weekend is next weekend, so we want to invite and encourage all of the mother's to attend and enjoy a great weekend with their beloved Phi Delt sons.  It proves to be a busy next few weeks as our schedule is jam packed with Mom's Weekend, the Alumni Invitational, and of course, the dreaded finals week.  Despite all of this, we will continue to update the site and keep everyone up-to-date of the happenings at Phi Delta Theta, MO Alpha Chapter here at Mizzou.

This Week in Phi Delta Theta at Mizzou is Back!

The Phi Delts of MO Alpha are back after a much needed Spring Break.  Many of the brothers traveled to beautiful Acapulco, Mexico, cruised the Carribbean, or they took a trip down to the lake to relieve some stress and celebrate the semester almost being over. 

Our soccer A-team will resume play tonight at 9 pm at Stankowski field after a tie the week before Spring Break, and the B-team will face off against another fraternity foe this Thursday night.  Our intramurlas look to gain some much needed points and to build on the semi-final appearance we made in basketball a few weeks ago. 

Greek Week is really starting to take full effect as our liasions have turned in all of the community service and project sign-ups last evening.  Such events include the Special Olympics, Caring for Columbia, a 5K run, and Meals on Wheels.  Everal members of the house unselfishly volunteered in order to help the cause.  As for Greek Week sports, they will kick off with a kickball tournament next Friday at Stankowski field.  Water polo, basketball, flag football, soccer, and sand volleyball will be played the following week after kickball.  All actives are encouraged to sign up for these games, and everyone is required to attend.  As for the skit (fling) and dance, they are both underway and on there way to being completed and fine-tuned.

This week in Phi Delta Theta at Mizzou

Intramural basketball is over after both the A and B squads lost in the playoffs. The A-team lost in the semi-finals to ATO by 8 points and our B-team lost in the quarter finals by 6 points to Pi Kappa Phi. Both teams will receive points for making it to the playoffs. On a brighter note, intramural soccer will begin next Tuesday night, all members are encouraged to attend.

Greek Week liason and blood meetings are underway, as well as dance and skit practices. Our dance team accompanied by the women of Tri-Delt will try to repeat as champions. The skit, as mentioned before, will be based around TV shows, where we were given Gilligan's Island. The script is currently under construction.

As for the 1st annual Alumni Invitational, everything is set-up and ready to go. All we need now is participants. So, we encourage all alumni to visit this site, download the registration form (on the upper-left hand side of the screen), and try to take your team to victory in this four man scramble tournament. Let the battle for the Blue Jackets begin. We are currently on the look out for sponsors for the tournament, so if anyone knows of a good sponsor be sure to contact any member of our Alumni Relations Committee.

Mid Week Update in Phi Delta Theta at MO Alpha

Our inconsistent Tigers are making us all think that a run for the Big Dance is not quite an impossibility.  Wins over then no.20 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in dramatic fashion have improved Mizzou's resume somewhat as they try to win out in Big 12 play.  This will prove to be a difficult task when they travel to Texas A&M to battle the Aggies, who are ranked in the top ten.  Mizzou did climb the ranks in the conference a bit with losses frm Texas Tech and the defeat of Oklahoma, we are currently 5th in the standings.

The members of Phi Delta Theta at Mizzou are starting to prepare for Greek Week with the beautiful girls of Delta Delta Delta.  We have assigned skit directors and liasons for Greek Week and are getting ready for all of the competition.  In alumni news, efforts to create the first annual alumni-active golf tournament are occuring full-speed ahead with the work of our new Alumni Relations Committee.  We encourage all alumni to check out this site, subscribe to the website and provide your current information in the contact section.  This will make it easier for us to get a hold of all of our tremendous alumni in the near future, so if you are already subscribed then tell all of your fellow brothers. 

In intramural news, our A-team won again after a dissapointing 3-point loss to ATO last week.  This time we won by the 25-point rule early in the 4th quarter.  The A-team is psyched for the playoffs which should begin next week, so stay tuned for those updates.  The B-team needs a win tomorrow night in order to make the playoffs, so we wish them the best of luck.  They have been missing their post presence the last two weeks due to tests and prior engagements, surely they will be ready to contribute this week.  Stay tuned for more updates and happenings here at Phi Delta Theta at the University of Missouri.

This week in Phi Delta Theta at Mizzou

This week in Phi Delt is back with new editions of this post every week to keep you informed on what is going on in our world.  Our beloved Tigers fell to our arch rival Kansas Jayhawks in what appeared to be a close battle and quickly turned into a blowout.  They need to go on a hot streak for the rest of Big 12 play and in the tournament if they want any chance of making the Big Dance. 

Members of the house dinner spoke to sororities last week to inform them of our annual philanthropy Phi Slamma Jamma which will take place in the end of April.  We hope for another successful event which will benefit the ALS Association of St. Louis.  Also, members are getting excited about the start of Greek Week with the wonderful ladies of Delta Delta Delta.  We had a successful initiation a couple of weeks ago where we initiated 22 new members, congratulations guys.  We encourage all of them to become increasingly involved in hopes to earn a position in the near future.  Stay tuned for next week's edition of the weekly rewind to find out what is going on here at the University of Missouri and in Phi Delta Theta.

This week at Mizzou and MO Alpha

We were off all last week for Thanksgiving break, so there is nothing to report from within the house.  However, now that we are a back things will start rolling again, especially with finals right around the corner.

Mizzou Sports had a good weekend, with a 42-17 win over the Jayhawks in football and a 85-56 romping of Stephen F. Austin by the b-ball team.  After the disappointing loss to Iowa State last week, the football tigers needed a win and finished the season at 8-4 (4-4).  We will be bowling again this year, and we won't be in the Independence Bowl for a change.  As of now, the two bowls that look possible for the tigers are the Texas Bowl (inaugural game) and/or the Alamo Bowl which goes to the 4th/5th place big 12 team.  We finished 5th in the conference, so we will wait and see.  Iowa has already accepted the bid to the Alamo bowl, with a 6-6 record.  Wherever we end up, more than likely it will be in Texas.  Here are CBS Sporstline's bowl predictions.   Update 11/28: we are also being considered for the Sun Bowl and the Insight Bowl, we find out Sunday.

As for the b-ball team, don't look now but we are 6-0.  I know the competition hasn't been the best, but we haven't started 6-0 in a long time (thanks Quin).  Mike Anderson looks like a great coach, and the team is actually hustling for him.  We will get a true test this week with Coppin State on Monday, and Arkansas on Thursday. 

Weekly Recap of MO Alpha...

We have had a busy past couple weeks as we head into Thanksgiving Break.  The Gamma Phi Beta Crescent Casino philanthropy went off without a hitch, raising a lot of money for the Campfire USA foundation.  Also, we commenced our Adopt-A-Highway community service.  This was the first of many clean-ups along highway 70 for years to come.

In Greek week news, we were chosen by sorority Delta Delta Delta and are paired with smaller fraternity Delta Tau Delta.  We serenaded Tri-Delt Wednesday night to make it official. 

Last weekend was our annual Gangster Formal which was held in Kansas City at the Marriott.  Everybody had a great time at the three course dinner and dance, and then enjoyed the night life of Kansas City.  Also last weekend, Mizzou Basketball went 3-0 at the John Thompson Classic beating North Carolina A&T, Army, and Stetson.  Go Tigers!!

Other than that, we are just looking forward to this much needed Thanksgiving Break before we start finals week.  We will be extending quiet  hours in the house so that our brothers will have a good study environment.

This week at Mizzou and Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha

The no.19 ranked Oklahoma Sooners (6-2) knocked off our Tigers (7-2) by a score of 26-10.  The Sooners were able to capitalize on two Mizzou interceptions, a fumble, a huge roughing the kicker penalty and a blocked punt.  Missouri mistakes accounted for all of Oklahoma's points yesterday in Columbia.  The Tigers were able to stay in the top 25 in the USA Today poll with a no.25 ranking, but fell out of the AP poll.  The Tigers will look to get back on track with their most difficult test of the season next week when the travel to Lincoln to take on the 'Huskers who will look to rebound after a heart-breaking defeat by the Cowboys from Oklahoma St.

Us at Phi Delta Theta were accompanied by our fathers this weekend as we celebrated our annual Dad's weekend.  As we struggled to watch the Tigers fail against the Oklahoma Sooners most of us hit the town of Columbia, mostly to celebrate a St. Louis Cardinals World Series victory, while we awaited the dinner festivities.  We were able to reserve a room in the back of Chris McDee's restaurant here in Columbia.  The members of Phi Delta Theta and their fathers were able to spend quality time together while exchanging stories and memories of college life.  We would like to thank all of those who were able to make it in town for this event and we hope you enjoyed your time here at Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha.  Intramural volleyball is starting up this week, so stay tuned for updates on how we were able to perform against the competition.  Lastly, nominations and elections for positions are coming up and we all look forward to see who will carry the torch for the next year.  Come back soon for more updates and information on what is going on here in Columbia.

This week at Mizzou and Phi Delta Theta MO Alpha

The Mizzou Tigers (7-1) rebounded from our heartbreaking loss last week with a 41-21 victory of the Kansas State Wildcats (4-4).  The victory along with Chase Daniel's four touchdown passes marked an end to a 13-year losing streak against the Wildcats.  The Tigers have only climbed up one spot to no.23 in the country, but the real tests for the Tigers will come up the next two weeks against Big Twelve foes.  Next week the Tigers are at home against no.19 (5-2) Oklahoma, followed by no.20 Neberaska (6-2) in Lincoln. 

Well, it was another busy week here in Columbia with the celebration of Homecoming.  Alumni and undergrads filled the town this weekend for the festivities.  The excitement with our Tigers and the surprise entrance into the World Series by the St. Louis Cardinals, has created a buzz here in Columbia.  However, we still managed to continue our help with Meals-on-Wheels, and we worked to finalize the Adopt-a-Highway program which will be talked about in an upcoming story.  Our pledges had another phenomonal week parking cars to raise money for their pledge fund and house projects.  Numerous alumni were able to make it back to the house and to Faurot Field to watch Mizzou Football.  We want to make sure that all the alumni tunning into the site continue to do so because we are beginning to plan an alumni barbeuce in the Spring.  On another note, the majority of the active chapter is setting up a road trip to Lincoln to watch Mizzou battle the 'Huskers on November 4th.  We are certain to stay busy here at MO alpha with midterms, papers, Cardinal baseball, and Mizzou football on the move.  Be sure to check daily for more updates at Mizzou and Phi Delta Theta.
